Thomas Wicker and his friend headed out for a trip on Longview Lake early in the morning. Scroll for more on his fishing report from their excursion!
Details:
- When: 7-13-19 from 5:30am-10am
- Air temp: 78° to 85°
- Water temp: 82 to 84°
- Water clarity: Lightly stained, 16 inches of visibility
- Weather conditions: Calm, light wind, sunny
- Target species: Largemouth Bass
- Baits used: Ned rig 1/10 ounce head paired with Z-Man “Hot Snakes” finesse TRD, 8′ to 10′ diving squarebill crankbait in a ghost shad pattern.
- Equipment used: Rods- Abu Garcia veritas spinning rod, 6′ 9″ medium light paired with Abu Garcia silver max spinning reel (ned rig set up.) BPS cranking stick 7′ paired with a BPS pro qualifier 2 in 5:8.1 ratio (crankbait set up.)
Notes:
Finding larger chunk rock was the key to the morning bite. Banging the square bill off the rocks triggered the reaction bite. We caught 4 or 5 with this pattern alone.
Key takeaways:
The temperature climbed quickly, which made it a short trip. The lighter ned rig head out performed the co-angler, who was using a heavier head yet again.
