Longview Lake Fishing Report June 28, 2019

Longview Lake

I finally had a chance to make it back out on Longview Lake again in the evening. I planned to fish for walleye, but the water was just too rough with pleasure boaters on the main lake. Targeting some areas around the sandy beaches was going to be too much work.

The water temperature hovered around 82 degrees the majority of the time. Water clarity was slightly stained with about 1.5-2 feet of clarity. The air temperature was upper 80s/low 90s during the day and it was pretty much completely sunny during my time on the water.

I switched gears and headed south to the start of the Little Blue River arm. When I reached the timber line, I noticed the depth of the water changed from 22 feet to 8 feet in a hurry.

I began tying various bass lures to target the depth transition and see what I could find. In the back of my mind, I knew I should be ready for schooling whites to appear at any time. Within minutes, they did.

The schooling started around 7:30pm and continued until dark. It began in about 12 feet of water on the timber edge. The whites worked their way to less than five feet as the evening progressed.

For whatever reason, I couldn’t get them to eat small topwaters, but they sure like some small plastics on a road runner jighead! I finished with about 10 white bass total. If I would have focused on them entirely, I definitely would have caught more. Each time I thought I would go try for largemouth, the whites would start schooling again.
